At first glance, the AccuCover looks like any other flip-up lens cover, albeit a nicely made one. But press the green button and something new is revealed. Spaced at 90 degree intervals around the outer bezel of the AccuCover are four bright yellow pointers. And what these deceptively simple markings can do for the accuracy of your shooting is very trick indeed.
Although it was originally designed for air rifle use - the AccuCover is a perfect fit for crossbow shooting. Why? Because it helps you to control the main causes of sighting errors when using a tele sight on a crossbow - cant and parallax.
The reason for this is that, compared to an air-rifle the crossbow, has an extremely high trajectory. This in turn requires a high sight-line - typically 2 to 3 inches above the axis of the bolt (arrow). The effect of this is that even the slightest degree of cant (tilting the crossbow left or right) will send your shots well wide of the mark. And it gets worse. Parallax is a big problem too. Most purposed-made crossbow scopes use low magnification (3 or 4 power), and have a fixed parallax setting (typically 30- 35 yards). And because of this, let's face it, very basic optical spec, avoiding bad shots due to parallax means keeping your aiming eye exactly concentric with your scope. If it's not, even the smallest error (the parallax factor) can make a very big difference to where your shot impacts on the target.
The AccuCover, which is the invention of airgunner and engineer Nick Matthews, solves both of these problems at a stroke. Those four bright yellow triangles make sure that your eye lines up with the exact centre of the scope every time that you take aim. Even those tricky shots across sloping ground, where both cant and parallax are a problem, the AccuCover's hi-viz yellow triangles will help you to shoot straight and true.
Like all the best ideas, the AccuCover's simplicity belies its functionality. And for the price you won't find another sighting accessory that improves your aiming accuracy quite like the AccuCover does.
